Working Groups

What is a Working Group, anyway?

Working groups -- Greenspeak for "committees" -- are formed around either specific issues (for example, a FLOW Working Group would be a committee to work on the Felton locally owned water issue) or around an organizational function (for example, the current GPSLV Publicity Working Group, which works to promote the GPSLV). Working Groups carry out the detailed administative decisions and daily oversight of various functions, campaigns and projects put in their care by the GPSLV membership.

So who's eligible?

Working groups are open to any local party member. Working groups shall strive for gender balance and equal opportunity in composition and allocation of duties.

How do you start one?

Simple. Each Working group comes up with its own charter, to be approved by the GPSLV membership, which covers at least the following: statement of purpose, plans, and proposed budget. You are also free to establish your own rules for internal business, as long as they are within the bounds of the local party bylaws.

Although the bylaws do not suggest how to set up your leadership structure, it is suggested that a lead or contact person be selected to make your group's reports at upcoming GPSLV meetings.

Current GPSLV Working Groups

The GPSLV Publicity Working Group is responsible for publicizing the local in various ways. The Publicity Working Group gets the word out to the community and to the local media about meetings and events. The group also seeks out tabling opportunities, and produces fliers and other materials for tabling and other promotions.

The GPSLV Publicity Working Group was affirmed at the February 2005 meeting by the general assembly and is currently led by Larry Cafiero. Volunteers are sought for this working group, and the next meeting of the working group will be held on alternating Wednesdays starting August 3 at 6:30 p.m. at Coffee 9, 9505 Highway 9 in Ben Lomond. For more information, call Larry at 831.438.1401 or at 831.429.2499 or e-mail him here.

GPSLV Platform Working Group

The GPSLV Platform Working Group is responsible for compiling and presenting a local platform using the Green Party's Ten Key Values to address local issues in the San Lorenzo Valley area. According to the charter, the platform will be an annual project, with various amendments being made during the course of the year.
