Anti-nuclear power
The Abalone Alliance consists of a long-time core (or corps?) of anti-nuclear power activists, many of whom cut their teeth on shutting down the Diablo Canyon plant near San Luis Obispo, and are now setting their sights on the Yucca Mountain nuclear waste facility.
Biodiversity
The All Species Foundation is a non-profit organization dedicated to the complete inventory of all species of life on Earth within the next 25 years - a human generation. To describe and classify all of the surviving species of the world deserves to be one of the great scientific goals of the new century.
The Alliance for Bio-Integrity is a nonprofit, nonpolitical organization dedicated to the advancement of human and environmental health through sustainable and safe technologies. To this end, it aims (a) to inform the public about technologies and practices that negatively impact on health and the environment and (b) to inspire broad-based, responsible action that helps correct the problems and uphold the integrity of the natural order.
General environment
Acterra is formerly Bay Area ACTION and Peninsula Conservation Center Foundation, a citizen education organization working in the SF Bay Area to preserve and restore the environment. It is dedicated to the creation of an ecologically sound society grounded in justice, equity and peace. Working on forest protection, stopping nuclear testing, high school organizing, Native American issues, and alternative energy.
Asia Pacific Environmental Network was founded in 1993 to bring together a collective voice among the diverse and unique Asian and Pacific Islander (API) communities in the United States. Through grassroots community organizing APEN works to strengthen the capacity of our communities to protect and shape our environments through democratic participation. APEN is part of a broad, multi-racial movement for environmental, social and economic justice.
Bay Area Coalition for Headwaters Forest.
Bay Area Dioxins Project is a joint project of Bay Area local governments, working to reduce dioxins pollution. The project has three focuses: Convening interested local governments; assisting local governments with dioxins pollution prevention strategies; and maintaining a productive dialogue with interested community, environmental, labor, government and business groups.

Berkeley Biodiesel Collectiveis a collective whose activities include running and maintaining a demonstration biodiesel production plant at the Ecology Center in Berkeley; providing education to the public about how to either produce or purchase biodiesel and use it to run diesel vehicles; acting as an advocate in the bay area, spreading word to the public and encouraging various organizations to run their fleets on biodiesel; and organizing an east bay bulk buyers club for bulk purchase of commercial biodiesel.
Berkeley EcoHouse is an ecological demonstration home and resource center that showcases both traditional and modern methods of environmentally healthy living. Community members visit EcoHouse to learn how ecologically friendly materials look, feel, work, cost, where to find them, and how to put them to work in their homes and businesses.
Berkeley Ecological and Safe Transportation Coalition (Berkeley BEST) advocates sustainable transit for all Berkeley area users: pedestrians, bicyclists, wheelchair users, bus and BART riders.

Natural Resources Defense Council is a national, non-profit organization of scientists, lawyers and environmental specialists dedicated to protecting public health and the environment. Founded in 1970, NRDC has more than 550,000 members nationwide, served from offices in New York, Washington, Los Angeles and San Francisco.

Professional organizations
Architects/Designers/Planners for Social Responsibility Northern California Chapter educates design professionals and the public about critical social and environmental issues. Though established with a disarmament focus, ADPSR has expanded its concerns to include the protection of the natural and built environment, and the promotion of ecologically and socially responsible development.
