Greens of San Lorenzo Valley:
Ready to shape a better world?
Who are we?
We're the Green Party of San Lorenzo Valley -- please, call us "Valley Greens" -- a neighborhood local of the Green Party of Santa Cruz County, California (GPSCCC). We received our affirmation by unanimous consent from the GPSCCC on Jan. 10, 2005 .
Meetings are held on the third Thursday of every month. Our next meeting will be on June 15 at 6:30 p.m. at Coffee 9, 9505 Highway 9 in Ben Lomond (Note: There is no May meeting).
If you are registered Green and want to be on the list of members affirming the formation of the Valley Greens, fill out our handy form, which will bring you back to this page once you're done.
Keeping SLV Green
According to its bylaws, which can be found here, any Green Party members who lives in the San Lorenzo Valley communities of Felton, Ben Lomond, Boulder Creek, Brookdale, Zayante (any communities we missed?), as well as the unincorporated areas of Santa Cruz County nearby, is eligible for voting membership. Naturally, any and all Greens -- and Green-leaning folks who are not yet registered Green -- are welcome to attend meetings, as well as other activities that the Valley Greens have planned for the near future (see below).
We're ready for the 2006 elections, though, fielding Green candidates in state and national races.
So where do Greens meet?
Currently the Valley Greens meet at Coffee 9 in Ben Lomond, located at 9505 Highway 9 (appropriately), on the third Thursday of the month. Our next meeting is on June 15 from 6:30 to 8 p.m., although members arrive as early as 6 to get ready (and you're welcome to come early to help!). A big "thank you" goes to Debbie Sanchez at Coffee 9, who has been gracious enough to allow our meetings in her fine establishment.
How do I find out more about the Green Party?
On the web the Green Party of the U.S. can be found here, and the Green Party of California can be found here. The GPSCCC can be found here. Of course, you're already at our Web site, but if you have any questions that can't be answered with these Web sites, e-mail it here.
Why should I register Green?
Registering Green is a way of "voting" for the kind of world you want. If you want to take a look at the Ten Key Values that are the basis for our party's platform, by all means take a look. We'll wait. Now that you're back (or even if you've already seen the platform and 10 Key Values), join a party which stands for your values, instead of one that is the "lesser of two evils."
In addition, registering Green makes a clear and effective political statement The more people who register Green, the stronger the Green Party will be, and the more parties will take green issues and Green voters seriously.
Incidentally, registering Green does not limit your voting options in general elections. Since you can vote for any candidate you prefer in the general eleciton, choosing a party is really about what what you believe in.
The Green Party of California was founded in 1990 and achieved ballot status in 1992. Today, over 156,000 Californians are registered to vote as Green Party members. Please join us.
Okay, I'm convinced. How do I register Green and get involved?
Registering is easy: In fact, if you come to a meeting, we'll have voter registration forms available. If you really can't wait to register Green (and we'll understand if you can't wait!), you can register online at the California Secretary of State's Web site, which is here (but let us know by e-mail, if you could, that you've registered online).
But wait, there's more: Because the SLV group plans a wide variety of political and non-political (i.e., fun) activities, the San Lorenzo Valley Greens have an e-mail list for its members and interested parties, in order to discuss issues and activities, as well as keeping in touch during the course of the month when we're not meeting. To get on the list, fill out the convenient form here, and we'll add you to the mailing list.
We hope to see you soon. Any other questions on the Greens, the Green Party or the Valley Greens can be fielded here.
